Ted has been involved in church life since he was baptised as an infant at St Matthew’s, Wigmore. Then at Holy Trinity Twydall he went to Sunday school and later sang in the choir. When he left school he trained in the electrical trade at HM Dockyard Chatham. On leaving the dockyard he went to work for GEC avionics at Rochester Airport.
After a time as a service and maintenance engineer with KCC Ted had a change of career and went into social work within the criminal justice system, working for Langley House Trust, a housing and resettlement charity for ex-off enders on their release from prison.
Ted has been actively involved in ministry for approximately 30 years. Over the years he has held various positions both paid and voluntary, mostly involving work with children and families. He was admitted and licensed as a lay reader in 2000, and served as focal minister at St Margaret of Antioch Church, Lower Halstow. He was Children’s ministry adviser for the Diocese of Canterbury for 12 years before being selected for training for ordained ministry.
After Ordination Ted worked for a short time with Walk Through the Bible Ministries, managing the schools programme, until his appointment as Mental Health Care Chaplain with KMPT Dartford, which he continues alongside his role in the parish.
Ted has been married to Sylvie for just over 39 years. They have three grown up sons and one grandson [soon to be two grandsons]. They also have a little dog ‘Poppy’ who enjoys the country park on our doorstep.
